TOP 10 ANIME WITH A DARK FIRST EPISODE (MUST WATCH)

1) ATTACK ON TITAN

Talking about dark opening videos, AoT definitely stands at the first place. The story starts inside the Wall Maria which is breached by big Titans that kill the mother of our protagonist Eren Jaegar right in front of him. Where he stands helplessly watching his mother get eaten. At that day, he learnt a very important lesson in his life and that lesson is that You need to be strongerto help protect those you love, otherwise you will witness their demise right in front of you!

This reality teaches our Protagonist very important lessons in his life and as we move further into the story and unravel the mysteries behind that Attack of Titans, the series grows darker and darker from there on.


2) TOKYO GHOUL 

Tragedy is the first episode of Tokyo Ghoul. Talk about becoming something that you hated the most. This is exactly that story. Society fears Ghouls, creatures who look like humans but sustain themselves on human flesh. 

Ken Kaneki is a bookworm living an ordinary life, until a harrowing encounter with a Ghoul turns him into the first half human half ghoul. Ken must straddle the line between the two differing factions, while dealing with his new powers and the loss of his humanity.


3) DEATH PARADE

Takashi along with his new bride, Machiko, find themselves at Quindecim. Together they must play a game with "their lives on the line". Takashi and Machiko cause each-other pain with their first darts. Together they begin missing with their darts to avoid pain. Machiko reveals she is carrying Takashi's child. Takashi regains memories and explains that he believes Machiko was cheating on him. Machiko explains why he is wrong and throws her last dart. Machiko's dart hits the bulls-eye, netting her the win and "breaking Takashi's heart". After the game, Takashi turns on Machiko and accuses her of having someone else's child. Machiko tries to convince Takashi that she wasn't unfaithful, but after seeing how lost Takashi is, Machiko walks away and cries. She remembers his promise of f making her the happiest woman ever. She then claims that she was cheating on him and was only after his money, confirming all his fears. 

Decim escorts the couple back to their elevators and bids them farewell. Later Decim confirms that Takashi's soul was sent for Reincarnation and Machiko's to the Void. In the first episode, the viewer is made to think that Machiko was lying about loving Takashi, and was only marrying him for money and status.

4) THE PROMISED NEVERLAND

Emma, Norman, and Ray are three extremely intelligent orphans that share a happy and structured life at The Grace Field House along with 35 other kids. Their day starts off early, with Emma rousing the kids from their sleep and getting everyone ready for breakfast. We see Emma in the “house mom” role, helping younger kids with their shoelaces and generally caring for the other orphans. At breakfast, we meet “Mom” – Isabella. With black hair, purple eyes, and a warm smile, Isabella tends to the kids with matronly patience and care. 

The kids all adore and revere her – especially Emma. Following breakfast, the kids are shown demonstrating their intellectual aptitude in a series of tests, which Emma, Norman, and Ray all pass with perfect scores. Despite their impressive intellect, Norman notes that Mom is still far superior as Emma agrees, recounting that they’ve never been able to beat her in chess. The kids then engage in a game of tag on the large green fields and among the lush trees of the forest that surround Gracefield. Emma is best known for her athletic abilities, and so when Norman is “it”, he quickly knocks out most of the house with the exception of her. The two square off as Emma makes a daring leap over a crevasse to escape Norman. Just when she thinks she’s home free, hiding out in the canopy of a tree, Norman feigns falling over and lures her out. “Your weakness is that you’re too kind.” he says. The trio summarizes their game of tag, and another round is played where everyone is “it” except for Norman. He seemingly disappears into the forest, with nobody able to find him until Emma accidentally stumbles upon the outer limits of the forest and notices him gazing at the low-level fence at the border. She tags him, and the other kids eventually catch up with them. There’s a discussion of what the “outside world” must be like, and the kids all take turns dreaming about that fated day when they’re adopted and finally leave Gracefield.


5) REDO OF THE HEALER

Keyaru, who is exploited and sexually abused repeatedly by others due to being a healing magician, notices what lays beyond just his healing magic, and is convinced that a healing magician is the strongest class in the world. However, by the time he realizes his own potential, he is already deprived of everything. 

Thus, using his healing magic, enhanced by the magic enhancing properties of the Philosopher's Stone on the world itself, he goes back four years into the past, deciding to redo everything and get revenge on the ones who abused him.

6) AKAME GA KILL

It has action, comedy and love. NICE MASTERPIECE.A perfectly well told story. Each episode is shocking, with spectacular battles, stories with which everyone connects. All the characters are unique, interesting and with well-defined personalities.This anime has a unique story development. It only tells bare minimum. People often criticize the lack of back-stories of the main characters, lack of world-building materials. 

However, all anime should not follow the same path. Akame Ga Kill had the most interesting plot of any show I have seen. The action, characters and emotions involved in this anime made for a fantastic show. The intensity of this show really got me into it.


7) DEVILMAN CRYBABY

A fated reunion between childhood friends leads Akira Fudo to follow Ryo Asuka into a veritable den of iniquity. 

When demons appear and go on a rampage, Akira will become one himself as a matter of survival... but will Ryo's machinations result in Akira becoming the most powerful demon of all?


8) RE : ZERO

Natsuki Subaru has been summoned in a different world. He doesn't know what the reason for his unexpected appearance in the fantasy world is. Initially, he set himself upon the belief that he was the destined protagonist of this new fantasy world. Thus, he assumed and acted according to this false belief. When he meets Kadomon, a vendor, in the streets, he learns that he cannot read the language of this world. The vendor asked him to buy some of his appas (that's what apples are called in this world). When Subaru showed him his coins from his world, the vendor told him that the coin he was using was foreign, and needed to use the national currency. 

When Subaru tells him that he is broke, the vendor yells at him, as he was 'disturbing' his business. Subaru leaves to search for more information on the world. Eventually, he encounters misfortune such as entering the girl's bathroom which results in a slap to his face, entering the demi-humans' inn which results in him falling from the bridge across the river, and meeting the three thieves named Ton, Chin, and Kan who were ready to rob him.


9) FUTURE DIARY

The scene opened in a middle of a room where a girl, crying, waking up someone who seems to be dead. The scene fades and switches into a dark room with a girl talking to her parents when suddenly a mysterious person stabs her to death. But before losing her breath, she requests for help from Amano Yukiteru in a faint voice.

The scene changes to a young boy named Yukiteru "Yuki" Amano, a loner who spends his time writing in his cell phone diary. Going home from school he immediately remove his shoes and brush up to his room to talk to his imaginary friend, Deus Ex Machina, God of Time and Space.


10) SEREAPH OF THE END

One day, a mysterious virus appeared that seemingly killed all humans over the age of thirteen, and vampires suddenly emerged taking the surviving children underground. A few years later, Yūichirō Hyakuya and Mikaela Hyakuya live there and give their blood. Yu hates the vampires and gets into trouble with them, but Mika gives his blood to Ferid Bathory in exchange for good food and anything he might want. That night, they eat the curry Mika earned and decided to escape. 

During the attempt, Ferid slaughters their entire family. Yu is the only one to escape having to leave Mika behind. He flees to the surface and runs into Guren Ichinose, who calls Yu a guinea pig and says he will use him to defeat the vampires.
